Agency For Workforce Innovation Communication Problems and Complaints
In my opinion AWI also known as "Agency for Workforce Innovation" have some really bad communication problems and a lot of issues to deal with regarding unemployment claims.
Recently, while trying to get the new stimulus extension that President Obama approved in November, I was informed by AWI about a previous claim which I filed originally in 2008.
Back in April of 2009, I was told in a telephone conversation by an employee of AWI that I had exhausted all benefits and was not entitled to claim anything else. I have looked for work but not too many jobs out there at the moment and continue to seek employment.
In November of 2009, when I called about the new extension I was asked by another employee of this same office why I had not claimed the 13 weeks extension which I was entitled to, this was the first I had heard of any entension on extension or Tier plan.
Again, I been told by an employee of the Flagler County Unemployment Office (AWI) that I had exhausted all my benefits in early April with no other recourse.
When I tried to explain this to the AWI office, I was told that my case would have to go downstairs for adjudication.
The following letter I received on Christmas Eve 2009.
Agency For Workforce Innovation ID # -------- -- ---------------
Unemployment Compensation Program Social Security # --- -- ----
Claims and Benefits Claim Filed Date 3/30/2009
Claim Office # 3635
Date Mailed 12.22/09
ADJ. Name: J A Thigpen
SECTION 1. NOTICE of DETERMINATION
SINCE FILING A PREVIOUS CLAIM, THE CLAIMANT HAS NOT EARNED REMUNERATION FOR SERVICES PERFORMED OF AT LEAST THREE TIMES THE CURRENT WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT.
NOTE: THIS DETERMINATION APPLIES ONLY TO THE CLAIM FOR REGULAR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. IT DOES NOT EFFECT RECEIPT OF EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.
SECTION 11. DETERMINATION
In accordance with Section 443. Florida Statutes:
Benefits are not payable because:
THE EARNINGS REQUIREMENT WAS NOT MET.
THE LAW REQUIRES INELIGIBILITY FROM 3/29/09.
It further goes on to state about filing procedures and appeals within 20 days, by letter, internet, fax, etc.
My problem is that I was mis-informed by an employee of the Agency For Workforce Innovation Office in Flagler County, who for one reason or another was not aware that I was entitled to claim a further 13 weeks after 3/29/09. I was not told this and not sure if I can prove this, unless the conversation was taped for quality assurance.
The reason I started this blog is to find out if similiar occurances have happened to other people in Florida and what your experience has been with the Agency for Workforce Innovation in Florida? The automated system called Fluid Now? Is the system fair? Do they make it difficult for you to claim what you are rightfully entitled to? Do you feel that you have been unjustly denied unemployment benefits?
What are your thoughts?
All comments are welcome!
